Musicians & Artists

Roger Half Face StylisedROGER ENO is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and sound artist who cannot easily be categorised. To quote his website “he is hard to pin down and slippery as a fish, yet creates lush, emotive soundscapes which quite easily swallow you whole”.

Roger’s powerful and versatile body of work easily lends itself to, and is frequently used in, TV, theatre and film. (Danny Boyle’s ‘Trainspotting’ and ‘Mr Wroe’s Virgins’ – for which Roger was BAFTA nominated, Dario Argento’s ‘Opera’ and Trevor Nunn’s NT production of Betrayal.) This background informs Roger’s description of his work for this event “film music without film”

He continues to tour and play live sets both as a solo artist and as an arch-collaborator.

GILL DOVE’S artist’s statement

“Generally my work is a response to the fragile beauty of the land, reflecting the dramatic environmental changes along this coast, bringing attention to them to create a ‘geography of hope’. I explore what I call the ‘undiscovered country of the nearby’ especially where the landscape rises out of clearing mist. To capture this and the striking effects of the sea as it breaches the coastline and rivers overflow, I use a combination of paint, photography and print, shifting the dynamic of traditional landscape painting.

Here, I have been inspired  by the beautiful decoration on the rood screen, so lovingly painted using the brightest and best colours available at the time, now faded of course and also the three frescoes and touching inscriptions, architects marks and drawings carved into the plaster on the columns,  some magical and  very personal to the carver.

For nearly a thousand years, artists have expressed their faith through these contributions to the very fabric of the Church.  I am proud to be part of a continuum, a new generation of artists responding to this delicate but profound environment.”
